The Lehman girls dropped to 2-6 on the season after losing at home Tuesday night to New Bremen in non-league girls basketball action, 53-45.
The Lady Cavs will return to action tonight at Houston, also in non-league play.
The win put New Bremen at 3-4 on the season, and the Lady Cardinals will also return to action tonight at unbeaten Jackson Center in non-conference play.
A slow start is what ultimately cost the Lady Cavaliers in their latest outing. New Bremen jumped to a 13-6 lead after a quarter and threatened to turn the game into an early rout by scoring the first six points of the second quarter for a 19-6 bulge.
But Lehman scored 10 of the next 14 points to cut the lead to 23-16 at the half.
Early in the third quarter, a Grace Monnin stickback drew the Lady Cavs within 25-20, but New Bremen responded in a big way — with three three-pointers, two by Kelly Naylor and one by Hanna Tenkman. That led to a 16-5 run by the Lady Cardinals to open up a 41-25 bulge.
In the final period, however, the Lady Cavs went on an 11-o run to trim the lead to 41-36 with still 7:01 remaining in the game. They closed to within three on two occasions, but couldn’t overtake the visitors.
Lauren McFarland led the Lady Cavs with 15 points, all in the final three periods. She was 4-for-5 from the line and 5-fot-7 from the field.
Grace Monnin had eight points and three steals, Brogan McIver seven points and three steals, and Hannah Fogt pulled down eight rebounds.
Bremen was led by Naylor and Kayla Bergman with 12 points apiece, and Tenkman added nine.
