WEST CARROLLTON — The Sidney High boys bowling team remained unbeaten on the year with one of its most impressive outings of the season Wednesday at West Carrollton, highlighted by one of the Jackets rolling a perfect 300 game.

The Jackets won 2512 to 1352 to go to 3-0 in the American North Division of the Greater Western Ohio Conference.

“This was far and away our most complete match as a team,” said Sidney coach Trent Knoop. “All eight boys bowled at least one regular game, and they all did great. If we continue to shoot 2500s we can compete with anyone in the state. That’s a great score.”

Austin Simon shot a 300 game the first game. It’s his second career 300 game, the first one coming in a bowling league.

He joins Kegan Latimer and his current coach as the only Sidney bowlers to roll 300 games in high school competition.

“Austin has come close many times, and he finally got all the pins to fall,” said Knoop. “I thought he was phenomenal today. His shot-making was spot-on the first game. I don’t think anyone could have thrown the ball any better than he did the first game.”

He added a 193 game to lead the Jackets with a 493 series, and to show how well the team was bowling, that was only 10 pins better than Josh Abbott, who had games of 226 and 257.

Lucas Finke, Damion Phillis and Drake Cromes all bowled one game and made the most of it. Finke and Phillis both rolled a 209 and Cromes, a freshman, a 205.

• The girls also won easily, 1968 to 1377.

The win, their second in a row, puts the girls at 2-1 in the North and 2-4 overall.

“We are doing a better job at our spares, and we are having better practices,” said Knoop. “It’s starting to translate into some victories. Just got to keep working hard at getting better on specific areas, and it will show. Very happy with the progress.”

Jenna Beatty led the way with a career-high 456 series on games of 232 and 224.

Heather Gold added games of 194 and 200 for a 394, and Kathryn Saunders had a 164 game and a 300 series.

Sidney competes in the Holiday Baker Bash at T-P Lanes in Bellefontaine Friday.
