Jacket wrestlers competein annual holiday tourney

FAIRBORN —The Sidney High wrestling team competed in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association’s annual holiday tournament at the Nutter Center Tuesday and Wednesday.

Though none of the Jackets were able to place in the top eight in their weight classes, two wrestlers won two matches apiece.

At 138, Kyler Pleasant lost his first match, then won a 10-1 major decision and a 6-0 decision before getting pinned.

And at 285, Greg Spencer lost his first match, then pinned his next two opponents in 2:45 and 1:24 before losing.

Phillip Bertsch won his first match with a pin in 5:35 at 113 pounds, and Seth Wallace at 152, won his second match by a 3-1 decision.

The Jackets finished tied for 59th in the final team standings with 17 points.

• The Versailles wrestlers had a good day, finishing fifth in the tournament.

Versailles finished fifth with 109 points.

The Tigers were led by Tanner Bey, Jerome Bey and Jacob Rismiller, who all finished fourth.

Tanner Bey (145) went 7-2 with a pin and two major decisions, Jerome Bey (182) finished 5-2 with a technical fall, and Rismiller (195) did it the hard way. After losing his first match, he reeled off seven straight wins in the consolation bracket, including two pins, before dropping his third-place match.

Jonathan Moorman (170) finished fifth to give the Tigers four placers. He won his first four matches to advance to the semifinals and finished 5-2 with a pin and a major decision.

Kyle Wuebker (138) went 3-2 with two pins, while Jeffrey Ware (285) also went 3-2.

Tyler Gigandet (160) was 2-2 with a pin and a major decision, Preston Platfoot (126) and Steven Mangen (132) went 1-2 with a pin, Cael Bey (106) went 1-2 with technical fall, and Nathan Wagner (120) went 1-2 with a decision.
