Minster breezes to championshipin Lima Bath Holiday Tournament

LIMA — As expected, the Minster girls breezed to the championship of the Lima Bath Holiday Tournament Thursday night, routing Lima Central Catholic in the championship game 60-26 to remain unbeaten on the season.

Minster is now 8-0 and returns to action Thursday at Delphos St. John’s.

Minster let 14-7 after one quarter, then scored the first 14 points of the second quarter to put the game away early with a 28-7 lead. It was 32-9 at the half.

“They are one of the best in the state,” Lima Catholic coach Katie Krieg said. “They are probably the best team we will play this year. They are long and aggressive and they change defenses, and that gives you problems.”

Minster had 10 players dent the scoring column, led by Courtney Prenger with 15. Rosie Westerbeck added 12.

JC 31, New Bremen 27

JACKSON CENTER — Jackson Center also stayed unbeaten on the year, but had a much tougher time of it, edging New Bremen in non-league action Thursday 31-27.

The win put the Lady Tigers at 7-0 heading into a game Tuesday at New Knoxville in non-league action.

New Bremen falls to 3-5 on the year and returns to action Tuesday at Houston in non-league play.

Jackson Center had to rally to stay perfect on the season. New Bremen led 10-6 after one and 16-9 at the half before Jackson outscored the Lady Cardinals 10-1 in the third quarter to take a 19-17 lead.

Then in the final period, Kamryn Elchert kept the Lady Tigers on top, scoring eight of her 10 points and hitting a pair of three-pointers.

Lehman 54, Houston 36

HOUSTON — Houston led by nine points after three quarters but the roof caved in in the final period, with Lehman outscoring the Lady Wildcats 25-8 to pull out a 54-46 come-from-behind victory in non-league girls action Thursday night at Houston.

The win puts Lehman at 3-6 overall heading into a league game Thursday at Riverside.

Houston drops to 3-7 with its fourth straight setback, and tries to turn that around Tuesday when New Bremen comes to the Houston gym.

Houston appeared to be in control, leading 13-4 after one quarter and more than doubling up the score at the half at 29-14.

Lehman chipped away in the third quarter, however, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 15-9, then exploded in the final period to come away with a victory. Houston was outscored 40-17 in the second half.

Four Lady Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by Grace Monnin with 13. Freshman Rylie McIver had 11 and both Hannah Fogt and Alanna O’Leary added 10 points apiece. McIver also added four steals, and Monnin and Brogan McIver had three steals apiece.

For Houston, Sarah Monnier had 14 and Jess Monnier 12.

Fairlawn is still searching for its first win after falling to visiting Newton in non-league action Thursday 53-16.

The Lady Jets are now 0-9 and play at Ansonia on Tuesday.

The Lady Jets were led in scoring by Lauren Dudgeon with nine points.
