First baby of 2017 arrives

SIDNEY — A Fort Loramie baby was the first baby born in 2017 in Shelby County.

Ashley and Nathan Barhorst welcomed son, Chance, into the world on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at 2:27 a.m. at the Copeland-Emerson Family Birth Center at Wilson Health. He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

To celebrate the birth of the first baby of 2017, the hospital presented Chance with numerous gifts including a handmade afghan crocheted by one of Wilson’s volunteers, a plush stuffed animal, a baby bib, booties, a hat made by Molly Watkins with “Off the Hook,” hand and body lotion, soap and lip balm for mom, slippers, a HALO Sleep Sack with a Bravado! Essential Camisole from Wilson Health Sweet Beginnings Lactation Boutique.

In addition, Picture Perfect Studios has donated a $75 gift card to go toward a Milestone Club package.
