Fort Loramie Board of Education discusses new parking lot

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie Local Schools is taking the first steps toward creating more parking space at the elementary building.

So learned members of the board of education during their regular meeting, Feb. 20. Superintendent Daniel Holland reported that a structure on property purchased a year ago adjacent to the school has been razed and that a couple firms are working to develop a request for proposals of designs for additional parking.

The board also discussed possible locations for a sidewalk that would lead from the high school into the new Redskin Park.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Fort Loramie Education Association to permit a teacher to purchase health insurance while she is on medical leave.

• Accepted donations in the amount of $917.60 by Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce as a grant for Angie Bolin, $50 by Fort Loramie Community Service Club in support of a high school student council pizza party, $488 by Chipotle in support of the athletic fund and $2,294.95 by the Athletic Boosters to support the purchase of a softball pitching machine.

• Approved an extended leave of absence requested by Evanne Shellabarger.

• Approved hiring Ted Bornhorst at a $842.25 salary to construct sets for the drama department and five substitute teachers at a rate of $90 per day, each.

• Approved changes to the high school registration handbook.

• Approved an eighth-grade field trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for April 28-May 4, 2018.

• Approved Eva and Aden Bolin as tuition students for the 2017-2018 school year.
