COLDWATER — The New Bremen Cardinals didn’t play like a team that entered the tournament with only one win, blasting Ada 65-31 in their Division 4 sectional-district boys basketball opener Tuesday night at Coldwater.

The win put the Cardinals at 2-22 on the season and advanced them to the sectional finals on Friday against Midwest Athletic Conference foe Fort Recovery.

The Cardinals took control right from the start in rolling to the easy win. They led 16-7 after a quarter and stretched it to 29-12 by the half.

Nolan Bornhorst led the Cardinals in scoring with 16, including 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Tate Myers added 12 points, hitting five of his seven shots from the floor.

Luke Vonderhaar pulled down 13 rebounds for the Cardinals, Koby Paul dished out five assists, and Bornhorst added six steals.

New Bremen was 25 for 60 from the floor for 42 percent and was 13-for-25 from the line for 52 percent.

Lima Temple 46, Knoxville 40

LAFAYETTE — New Knoxville saw its season come to an end in its first D-4 tournament game Tuesday after being edged by Lima Temple Christian 46-40.

The Rangers finish the season with a final 5-18 record. Lima Temple advances at 12-11 to the sectional finals Friday at 8 p.m. against Lima Temple at Allen East.

Temple took a 12-8 lead after one quarter behind the play of Brody Bowman, who had nine of his team’s points. New Knoxville clamped down on him in the second quarter and held him to just two, but the Rangers only managed four in the quarter and trailed 18-12 at the half.

Then in the second half, Bowman got going again, scoring repeatedly from the line and going on to pour in 27 points on the night. He was 13-for-17 from the line, including 12-for-15 in the second half.

Nathan Tinnerman tried gamely to bring the Rangers out on top. After scoring just two points in the first half, he put up 21 in the final two periods, including nine at the line in 12 attempts. But no one else had more than four for the Rangers.
