LIMA — Lima Regional Information Technology Alliance (LRITA) will host its annual technology conference, April 13, in the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in downtown Lima.

Registration for the conference is now open.

“We feel the conference program gets stronger every year, so we invite those IT professionals in our region and beyond to attend in order to grow professionally and develop connections with our peers within the IT industry,” said Jeffery Le Blanc, LRITA chairman. “Each year we bring in informative keynote and special presentation speakers, as well as host a variety of educational sessions from both regional and national IT providers.”

LRITA will host keynote presenter Darren Kall, a user experience design and strategy expert who has made technology better for millions of people globally. Before becoming the managing director of Specific Clarity, Kall worked at Microsoft, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, LexisNexis and IBM. He founded the Windows Security User Experience team, and the Windows Security Assurance team. He was the group program manager of the Windows Core Security team, the Microsoft Passport front-end team, and the Microsoft Passport user experience team. He founded the MSN-client security and privacy teams. At Bell Labs, he worked on designing the security user experience for an AT&T phone system for the White House. He was a U.S. representative to the standards body of the United Nations Agency for Information and Communication Technologies. He has degrees from Dartmouth College and Rutgers College. He holds 11 U.S. patents, six international patents and has 172 patent citations.

His talk is titled, “What to Do About Human Error in Security.”

Human error is responsible for contributing to 95 percent of security incidents. Each year, the threats to enterprise security grow exponentially. Kall asserts that companies are failing to engage employees in protecting valuable company assets and their private information. Technology advances and employee education alone will not eliminate this risk.

In this talk, Kall will clarify the causes of human error, show how cyberspace hackers are using a deep understanding of the psychology of people to succeed, and give specific recommendations for changing the model of human error so that new mitigation strategies can be produced and implemented to reduce human error in security.

LRITA will host a presentation by the FBI on cyber security. The presentation will be given by in partnership with the Toledo Infragard Members Alliance. During this presentation, attendees will be updated on the hows and whys businesses are targeted and exploited through cyber attacks.

Early bird registration for attendees is $10 for LRITA members and $20 for nonmembers. The price will increase by $10 after March 10. Registration includes breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks throughout the day with catering by The Old Barn Outback. More information and online registration is at www.lrita.org.
