Upper Valley Career Center names Students of the Quarter

PIQUA — Kyle Flaute, Houston High School senior, Pauline Frank, Sidney High School junior, and Zac Gordon, Miami East junior, were named the Upper Valley Career Center Students of the Quarter for the third nine-week grading period.

According to Director of Student Services Matt Meyer, Flaute is a Computer Information Technologies Level Two student, Frank is in the Medical Careers Academy Level One, and Gordon is a Landscape Management Level One student.

Frank is the daughter of Kevin and Jaunita Frank, of Sidney. She was recommended by her Medical Careers Academy instructor Tami Yahle who shared that Frank is one of the most conscientious students she has ever had. “She works very hard and is kind to peers and staff,” Yahle said. The academic teachers describe Frank as a meticulous worker, genuine and caring with exceptional character.

Gordon is the son of James and Shelly Gordon, of Piqua. He was nominated by his Landscape Management teacher John Kreitzer who shared that Gordon is a hard-working, dependable, detail-oriented student who cares for others and about his business endeavors. His academic teachers state that he is exceptional – an outstanding student.

Flaute is the son of Martha Simpson, of Wapakoneta, and Kirk Barhorst, of Fort Loramie. He was recommended by his Computer Information Technologies instructor David Briggs who shared that Flaute is a class leader who has great desire and preparation. His academic teachers state that Flaute is intelligent and hardworking – a pleasure to have in class.

Students of the Quarter are nominated by their career-technical program instructors based on attendance, citizenship, leadership and effort. In addition the student’s academic instructors are asked to rate each nominee’s effort during the nine-week grading period.

Two students earned commendation for their nominations. Students earning an “Award of Merit” designation for Student of the Quarter honors are: Erin Bremke, Early Childhood Education and Care II and Laura Pritchett, Exercise Science I.
