SIDNEY — The Fairlawn Children’s Choir and Fairlawn Youth Choir, under the direction of Sonya Phillips, won spots in the Dayton Daily News National Anthem contest.

Winners were scheduled to sing the National Anthem at a Dayton Dragons home game. The Fairlawn elementary choirs earned two of 70 spots from almost 300 entries.

The Children’s Choir features selected singers in grades Kindergarten through third grade. The Youth Choir is open to young singers in fourth through sixth grades.

They performed during the Dragons game, Tuesday, April 18. The Fairlawn school community members and students’ families purchased almost 400 tickets to the games supporting these young singers.

Dragon’s President and General Manager Robert Murphy greeted the students and praised their performance. He also sent a congratulatory letter to the choirs, thanking them for their fine singing.
