Staff report

The Sidney Women’s Summer Tennis League, now in its 32nd year, is accepting sign-ups for women interested in playing Monday evening doubles tennis on the Sidney High School courts.

The City of Sidney Parks & Recreation Department aids the tennis league by reserving the Sidney High School tennis courts on Monday nights for the women’s league.

There are two divisions: beginner and advanced. Players compete in doubles tennis with different partners each week according to a schedule. Partners play one match, consisting of 15 games, on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Scores are recorded after each match so that awards are given at the end of the season.

Matches start Monday, June 5 and continue for ten consecutive Mondays with the exception of July 3. Play will end on Aug. 14.

Individuals will be responsible for finding their own substitutes. In the event of rain, all matches will be cancelled via email and/or text notification.

The fee is $5 per person, which covers the cost of balls and awards.

The league welcomes all women interested in playing whether an experienced player or a beginner learning the game of tennis for the first time. Anyone available for only a portion of the summer, but who would still like to play, can also sign up to play as a substitute.

Those interested in playing or wanting more information, contact Joan Schroeder at 937-498-1001 by May 15.
