June 29, 1892

Commencing today Shelby county has one more board to look after some of its interests. It is the County Board of Visitors for which the recent legislature made provision. Composed of three men and women, this board is required to visit the charity institutions of the county once a year and make a report. The board Appointed by Judge Richie includes Mrs. John H. Wagner, Mrs. T.M. Hussey, Mrs. E.A. Arbuckle, William Binkley, O.S. Marshall, and Dr. D.R. Silver. They serve without pay.

June 29, 1917

The Baltimore and Ohio Railway Co. has purchased and will operate as part of its great system , the Cincinnati. Hamilton and Dayton Railway which operates through Sidney. The former name will be dropped and the road will be known as the Toledo and Cincinnati Railway Co.

The thunderstorm yesterday afternoon was accompanied by a strong wind northeast of Anna. Several buildings were partially unroofed among which were buildings belonging to Adam Kies and J.C. Heintz.

June 29, 1942

With the national scrap rubber drive in its final stages and redoubled efforts being put forth by every official to round up the valuable scrap, Mayor John Sexauer this morning issued a proclamation declaring Saturday as “Scrap Rubber Day”. Ray Burke, county chairman for the drive, stated this morning that the total collected in Shelby county has now passed the 30-ton mark.

A concert by Wilbur Piper’s band will be a part of the program to be presented Sunday evening for the second of the stadium services sponsored by the Sidney Ministerial association.

June 29, 1967

Don Lochard, Jaycee president, was the guest speaker for members of the Jayceettes when they held their June meeting in the social rooms of the First National Bank. Installation of officers was held. Installation of officers for the coming year will be Mrs. Jason Gregg, president; Mrs. Gene Brown, vice president; Mrs. Lee Cartwright, secretary; Mrs. James Lockwood, treasurer.

Members of the County Home Building and Advisory Commissions met this afternoon with county commissioners in the courthouse assembly room to view plans and specifications by Freytag & Associates, architects, for the new $650,000 county home. The building commission is comprised of Attorney Frank Marshall, Don Bollinger, Ralph Taylor and Mrs. Clyde Millhoff.

June 29, 1992

Sidney native Kathleen Leese has recently returned from Washington D.C. where she was a special guest of First Lady Barbara Bush and First Dog Millie at the White House. It was the highlight of the National Amyotrophic Lateral Scherosis (ALS) Association’s Volunteer Leadership Conference. Ms. Leese of Columbus was one of 10 persons chosen from across the United States to represent the national ALS Association on the visit with the First Lady. While at the White House and prior to their meeting with Mrs. Bush, the delegates were given a VIP tour of the White House, including areas not generally seen by the public. They saw special areas of interest including the fireplace used by Franklin Roosevelt during his fireside chats, the White House china the Red, Green and Blue Rooms, the State Dining Room and the East Room of the White House.
