PIQUA — Elaine and Richard Nishwitz, of rural Piqua, Shelby County’s Washington Township, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house, from 3 to 5 p.m., July 22, 2017, in the Houston Community Center in Houston.
The couple ask that gifts be omitted.
Richard and the former Elaine Pierce were married May 13, 1967, in the Faith Lutheran Church in Dayton. The Rev. George E. Smith performed the ceremony. Witnesses were matron of honor Gloria Roberts, bridesmaid Lynn Johannesson, best man Charles J. Nishwitz, brother of the bridegroom, and ushers Jerry Cron and James Grilliot. The couple had met at Sinclair Community College.
Richard is the son of the late Charles and Edna Ford Nishwitz. He has a brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Patty Nishwitz, of Piqua. A sister, Rebecca Dodson, is deceased.
Elaine is the daughter of the late Ralph and Elva Dunn Pierce.
The Nishwitzes are the parents of a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cindy Nishwitz, of Houston, and a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jay Krienitz, of Olympia, Washington. They have six grandchildren.
Richard retired as a Washington Township fiscal officer and is a self-employed farmer. Elaine is employed by Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua as a substitute teacher.
The couple attend St. John’s Lutheran Church in Piqua.
