CINCINNATI — The One Church of Mercy Committee, made up of Roman, Maronite and Syro-Malabar rite Catholics as well as Orthodox Christians, will host the Cincinnati premiere of the film “Our Last Stand,” a documentary about Christians striving to maintain a presence in the Middle East.

The film will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Esquire Theatre, 320 Ludlow Ave., Clifton (Cincinnati). The film will be followed by a panel discussion at 3 p.m. including Maronite Bishop Elias Zaïdan, of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles, and the film’s producer, Jordan Allot. Tickets will cost $7.50. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at www.esquiretheatre.com.

“Our Last Stand” follows Helma, an Assyrian-American schoolteacher from New York, as she spends her summer vacation traveling to Iraq and Syria to help raise awareness about the plight of Christian communities threatened by civil war and ISIS. Along the way she uncovers both heart-breaking and inspiring stories of grief, despair, persecution, courage, and hope as she discovers what it means to sacrifice for her faith and community.

In the summer 2016 One Church of Mercy Committee brought His Beatitude Bechara Peter Cardinal Raï, the Maronite Patriarch, to Cincinnati during the Catholic Church’s Fortnight for Freedom observance.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the 44th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with more than 450,000 Catholics, and has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in terms of enrollment. The 19-county territory includes 211 parishes and 111 Catholic primary and secondary schools.
