The Prohibitionists of Shelby County will open their campaign and nominate a county ticket next Friday. Joe Hess, a prominent temperance lecturer, will deliver the address.

Our fire laddies are having a good time at the fairground this afternoon. They are holding their picnic and the Dutch Band is there to assist them in having a pleasant time.

When Sidney voters go to the polls next Tuesday they will not only select nominees for city offices on both party tickets, they will also vote on a $10,000 bond issue for the purpose of paying the city’s portion for the construction of permanent structures or bridges over the Miami and Erie Canal at Miami and Ohio Avenues, and at North, Court, South and Water Streets.

The street paving contract was awarded last evening. Heffner & Son received the contract for brick on the following streets: Main, Wapakoneta, Fair, West, North, Highland, Walnut, East, North, Clinton, West and Franklin. Asphaltic concrete will be installed by the Columbus Asphalt Co. on Miami, Chestnut, Dallas, Ohio, Water, Pike and Park.

The Monarch Machine Tool Co. is today producing 35 percent of the country’s high grade lathes used to make vital parts of planes, tanks, ships, guns, torpedoes and other weapons. Wendall E. Whipp, president of Monarch, revealed yesterday in a talk made over the loud speaker system to the first shift of the plant. The talk followed a radio program broadcast nationally summarizing the war production picture.

It was Angus again Tuesday evening in the beef judging competition at the Shelby County Fair, when steers of that breed were selected as grand champion and reserve champion. Carolyn Jelly, Sidney, showed the grand champion. Her brother, Doug Jelly won reserve championship.

Randy McCracken and Mary Strayer were winners of electric clocks after their pigs won blue ribbons at the Shelby County Junior Fair on Tuesday. Randy’s Chester White was the best boar while Mary’s Yorkshire took the sow title. Randy is a member of the Orange Township livestock Club. Mary is a member of the Starting Farmerettes.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Researchers have found a new anatomical difference in the brain structure of homosexual men and heterosexual men, a discovery that supports a theory that sexual orientation may be set by nature. UCLA School of Medicine scientists Laura Allen and Roger Gorski report that in autopsy studies they found a brain structure called the anterior commissure to be 34 percent larger in homosexual males than in heterosexual males. Allen said the autopsied brains of homosexual women were not included in the study because of difficulty in getting specimens.
