SIDNEY — Terri Berning, of Anna, was having a great birthday trip this July with her husband, David. They visited National Parks, Las Vegas and even went on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. On the last day, the couple went to the Price is Right – and Berning was called on stage to compete.
“I was so nervous,” Berning said. “But Drew (Carey) was so nice and I felt so blessed.”
Twelve years ago, Terri and her sister went on the show for her sister’s birthday.
“She always wanted to see Bob Barker,” Berning said. “She even went on stage but didn’t win. I wanted to go back because it was so much fun.”
Berning competed on July 19, but wasn’t allowed to say anything about the taping until it aired Wednesday, Sept. 27.
“I’m still on a high,” she said. “So many of my friends came over and we replayed it. I am so blessed for such wonderful friends.”
At Marion Local Schools, where Berning works as 3rd grade teacher, her kids were just as excited.
“They were doing my famous toe-touches and when I gave a shout out to my kids at school one little girl said ‘that’s me,’” Berning remembered.
Berning won a sauna, designer handbags and 4k flatscreen TV by guessing which was most expensive. During the spinoff, she initially tied with contestant Lillian Smith, of Arkansas, to move forward to the showcase, but lost during another round of spinning.
“I was not disappointed because I felt so blessed getting on stage,” Berning said. “It was a three percent chance of getting on stage and I’m so glad I had it.”
In reflection, Berning said it was a great experience and recommended it to anybody.
“I got to do it twice, and it was great,” she said.
