SHS homecoming activities begin Wednesday

SIDNEY — The Sidney High Student Government is jazzed to host the annual homecoming dance, with a 1920s theme, on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

Homecoming activities will kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 4, with the homecoming parade and Powder Puff game. The parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. from the Shelby County Fairgrounds, where it will travel north on Highland Avenue and then west on Campbell Road to the High School. Participants in the parade will include all court members riding in cars and representatives of each class carrying banners. Spectators are welcome to watch the homecoming parade anywhere on the parade route.

On Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5, all SHS students will participate in a homecoming pep rally. Sidney High School Television Productions classes will present a video slide show highlighting each court candidate on the announcements prior to the pep rally. The SHS band and cheerleaders from all levels will kick off the festivities. Court members and student volunteers from each class will participate in various games and competitions. Fall sports senior athletes will also be recognized

The homecoming football game will take place Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, as the Week 7 game of Fox 45’s Thursday Night Lights. Pitting Sidney against Tipp, the game will kick off at 7 p.m.

Prior to the game, the homecoming crowning ceremony will take place. Court members will be introduced at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at Sidney Memorial Stadium. The 2016 king, Elliot Wilson, and 2016 queen, Jenna Foster Wheeler, will crown the 2017 king and queen at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The 2017 homecoming king candidates are Thomas Atwood, 18, son of Scott and Tricia Atwood; Isaiah Bowser, 18, son of Melissa Bowser; Evan Burden, 17, son of Tim and Jill Burden; Lucas Finke, 17, son of Eric and Leah Finke; Gavin Miller, 17, son of Chad and Fran Miller; Devan Rogers, 18, son of Carlose and Lisa Rogers; and Kelton Stockton, 18, son of Henry and Cara Stockton

The 2017 homecoming queen candidates are Lauren Baker, 17, daughter of Bill and Julie Baker; Ravyn Crall, 17, daughter of Shawn and Edana Crall; Madison Frank, 17, daughter of Jonathan and Lori Frank; Kara Frantom, 17, daughter of Scott and Tracie Frantom; Addison Hudgins, 18, daughter of Chris Hudgins and Tish Icenogle-Hudgins; Karlie Lee, 17, daughter of Keith and Beth Lee; and Khaila Price, 17, daughter of Billy and Latoya Price.

The homecoming dance is Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 to 11 p.m. in the SHS large gym. Tickets are $8 and will be on sale before and after school in A104 or during lunch the week of Homecoming; they will also available at the door for the same price. Any student bringing a guest must fill out a guest form and return it before buying tickets.
