Ohio Living makes Fortune list

COLUMBUS — Ohio Living, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit, multi-site aging services organizations, has been nationally ranked on Fortune magazine’s list of Best Workplaces in Aging Services. Ohio Living is the only Ohio-based organization on the list, appearing at number 22 out of 50 workplaces ranked.

Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney is one of 13 communities owned and operated by Ohio Living. Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice – Greater Dayton is one of seven such Ohio Living agencies.

This is the first year that Fortune has published a list for the aging services industry. To determine the rankings, Fortune research partner Great Place to Work analyzed survey results from more than 162,000 employees working in the industry. Ohio Living’s certification as a Great Place to Work is what qualified it to be considered for this prestigious honor.

“I believe the chief responsibility of management is to help our employees succeed in their efforts,” said CEO Laurence C. Gumina. “That’s why we provide our leaders with regular education and training to help them improve their leadership skills for the benefit of their teams. I want this investment in our leaders to result in our teammates finding Ohio Living to be the best place they’ve ever worked.”

Tricia Atwood, executive director of Ohio Living Dorothy Love, stressed that quality aging services organizations care for much more than just the physical needs of the individuals seeking services.

“Our employees bring a holistic view of care to the people they serve; considering their spiritual, mental, emotional and social needs as well as the physical,” she said.

“Our employees are also empowered to do the right thing for their residents and patients every time,” added Kaylee Scheer, executive director of Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice – Greater Dayton.

As a faith-based, not-for-profit organization, Ohio Living identifies six core values at the heart of its operation: care, customer service, integrity, innovation, financial stewardship and leadership. Its culture of appreciation and recognition is designed to reward living out each of these values.

“You can see example after example of these values brought to life each and every day through the work of our team members,” Gumina said.

In addition to the Fortune ranking, Ohio Living Dorothy Love has also recently been recognized as a Bronze Level Employer of Choice by LeadingAge Ohio.
