SIDNEY — Sollmann Electric Company, located at 310 E. Russell Road, Sidney, Ohio, had another successful year in 2019.
“Our sales have continued to increase and we completed several impressive projects in 2019. All of which could not have been done without our highly-skilled electricians and professional staff,” reports Jeramie Sollmann, president. “Over the past five years we have focused on increasing our number of apprentices so we ultimately increase our number of skilled electricians as well as replace those who have retired.”

The Electrician Apprenticeship program is a 4-level program consisting of a combination of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of classroom instruction (on-line and in-class). The apprentice is gainfully employed while receiving on-the-job training. The program takes 4 years to complete and results in a Journeyperson Certification from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training and the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council. Sollmann Electric has a tuition reimbursement schedule which results in the tuition being zero cost to the employee.
Sollmann Electric had a record number of 18 apprentices; three of which were students in the School-to-Apprenticeship Program offered by Upper Valley Career Center (UVCC) in Piqua and the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) in Clayton. The program allows high school seniors to work while attending school. Upon graduation, these students will have completed the first level of the four-level apprenticeship program and will have the opportunity to secure full-time employment with Sollmann Electric and complete the apprentice program. “I encourage high school students to learn about the trades programs offered at UVCC and MVCTC. Starting a program in the 11th grade can really give them a head start towards their career goals
In addition to the three student apprentices, Sollmann Electric has 15 apprentices that are spread over Levels 1 through 3. By the end of 2021 we will have five apprentices completing the program and becoming certified journeyperson electricians. There is a high demand for electricians in today’s job market and I encourage job-seekers and graduating students to consider the trades when deciding a career path. Electricians are highly-paid and always needed. My father, Dennis Sollmann, does a lot of out-reach to the local schools giving many presentations to classes on the electrical trades career path. He does a really good job connecting with the kids and making it fun.

There were many significant projects completed in 2019. The industrial sector continued to expand including the Grob Systems New Engineering/Sales Facility in Bluffton, Fabmetals New Building in New Carlisle, Topre America Corporation Phase 2 Building Addition in Springfield, Honda APX CC Building Expansion in Anna, Honda Transmission Manufacturing Chiller Building Expansion in Russells Point, and the Crown Equipment Building Expansion in New Knoxville. There were also many public projects including Urbana New High School, Minster Local Schools Junior/Senior High School Renovation, and two New ODOT Maintenance Facilities located in Marysville and Columbus.
The future looks good for 2020. We will be working on several school projects including the Clark Shawnee High School Renovation and the Clark Shawnee New PK-8 School — both in Springfield, as well as the New Bremen New K-8 School. Industrial projects include Midmark Technology Center in Versailles and the Topre America Corporation Phase 3 Building Addition in Springfield.
