125 years

December 9, 1896

There will be a football game played tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock on the grounds in East Sidney between a team selected from the grammar grades and the junior high school team.


Members of the senior class at the high school will give an entertainment, W.D. Howell’s farce, “A Masterpiece of Diplomacy,” in the high school hall the evening of Dec. 23. The entertainment will be given for the benefit of the high school library.

100 years

December 9, 1921

Wilson Kraft, of this city, a freshman at Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, has been elected cheerleader of his class by a large majority. There are nearly 600 in the class.


At the meeting of the creditors of the Sidney Washing Machine Co. in the office of Referee in Bankruptcy David Oldham this morning, Royon Hess was selected as trustee to close up the business.


The Holy Angels High School basketball team journeyed to Montra last evening and defeated the team from that place by a score of 25 to 5.

75 years

December 9, 1946

A 1937 Chrysler coupe belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Crumbaugh, was given a free wash this morning – but at the expense of two fenders – when it went rolling 175 feet over the bank of the Miami River and ended up in the water. The car was parked on the river side of Brooklyn Avenue near the Crumbaugh residence when it suddenly wended its way down the steep bank, through a maze of obstacles, into the river. Although two fenders were damaged slightly, the car was drivable when pulled from the water.


Fourteen-point rallies in the second and fourth periods enabled the Sidney High school varsity basketball team to eke out a 44 to 43 victory over the Alumni at the high school gym last night. Cargill and Konz led the winners with 16 points each. Laughlin was high for the Alumni with 13 points.


, DECEMBER 9, 1971

Dr. Fletcher E. Zimpfer II, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred E. Zimpfer, R.R. 1, Sidney, has established a dermatology practice in Tempe, Ariz.

Jackson Center senior Pat Holt was a unanimous selection to the Shelby County League girls all-star basketball team announced Tuesday. Joining Pat was teammate Sheryle Rostorfer, a junior. Jan Burger, a sophomore sharp-shooter from Houston, was picked. Vickie Steineke of Botkins and Marge Meyer of Anna, both seniors, were named to the squad.
