SIDNEY — Fairlawn Local School District competed in the Ohio Model United Nations Assembly.
The school had three teams prepare resolutions to improve their represented nations of Botswana, Mozambique and Vanuatu. The solutions to world issues were debated by close to a thousand other high school students at the OMUN at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus.
OMUN is a world simulated event where students research and represent a nation in the actual UN and develop creative solutions to issues plagueing that country. It promotes critical thinking, creative problem solving, public speaking, and formal debate skills as well as a deep compassion for global understanding. The event featured 118 teams from all over the state.
Fairlawn High School senior Willow Clincher was awarded a special leadership award from OMUN. Fairlawn teams included Riley Cota, Loralei Chambers, Riley Longmire, Owen Hershberger, Julia Huelskamp, Liliana Phillips, Ryleigh Werling, Willow Clincher, Olivia Ambos and Abby Kramer.
