SIDNEY – Sentencing in Shelby County Common Pleas Court resulted in prison and jail terms for a variety of crimes including felonious assault, child pornography, grand theft, storing a loaded firearm inside a vehicle and violating probation.

Two individuals failed to appear for sentencing after pleading guilty to drug-related crimes.

Joshua M. Arnett, 37, of Sidney, was sentenced in two separate cases against him to a total of nearly two years in prison, a combined discretionary period of two years of probation for each crime, and all costs of prosecution. Arnett received one year in prison (with 106 days of jail credit awarded) after pleading guilty to the amended charge of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony. He was initially indicted on felonious assault, a second-degree felony, when, on or about Sept. 19, 2021, Arnett allegedly punched an adult male in the face, fracturing his jaw and knocking out teeth which required medical treatment. This is to be served consecutively to his sentence of 11 months (with 11 days of jail credit awarded) after pleading guilty to disseminating material harmful to juveniles, a fifth-degree felony. On or about June 4, 2021, Arnett allegedly provided, exhibited, or presented a nude and obscene photo of a juvenile under sixteen.

Sheila Michelle Goins, 49, of Coldwater, was sentenced to one year in prison for grand theft, a fifth-degree felony (which was a reduced charge from the initial indictment specifying a fourth-degree felony). From October 2020 through May 2021, Goins allegedly stole between $7,500 and $150,000 from Fish Stores.

Treyvon M. Hall, 22, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was sentenced to 30 days in the Shelby County Jail (with one day of jail credit awarded), a $300 fine and all costs of prosecution for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. The charge was reduced from a fourth-degree felony to a first-degree misdemeanor after Hall pleaded guilty on Nov. 30, 2021. However, the judge ordered the sentence will be completely suspended if all fines and court costs will be paid in full within 30 days. On or about Sept. 16, 2021, Hall allegedly had a loaded Smith & Wesson SD9 9mm black pistol in his vehicle’s glove compartment.

Lauren Parshyn, 30, of Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, failed to appear for scheduled sentencing on Jan. 3, 2022, and the court ordered the 10 percent put down ($2,500) forfeited, and ruled in favor of the State of Ohio for the balance of of the bond due ($22,500). An arrest warrant was issued. Parshyn was initially indicted on one felony and two misdemeanor charges: tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and two counts of drug possession, each being a first-degree misdemeanor. On or about Dec. 19, 2018, Parshyn allegedly possessed or used Suboxone and Xanax, as well as concealed a container of marijuana, Suboxone strips, pills, a spoon, and white powder on her person. Parshyn entered a plea of guilty on Nov. 24, 2021, and the judge accepted the plea on Nov. 29, 2021, to attempted tampering with evidence, a fourth-degree felony, and the two counts of drug possession against her were dropped.

Robert John Price III, 25, of Bellefontaine, failed to appear for scheduled sentencing on Jan. 3, 2022 and the bond forfeited. An arrest warrant was issued on Jan. 6, 2022. Price was initially indicted for drug trafficking (marijuana) and possessing criminal tools (bags), each being a fifth-degree felony, which allegedly occurred on June 10, 2021. The grand jury found that a Taurus PT809 9mm pistol and $3,528 in cash were subject to forfeiture. On Nov. 24, 2021, Price pleaded guilty to one count of fifth-degree drug trafficking with the second charge dismissed.

The inability to follow the rules of probation resulted in additional sentencing.

Conrad Jace, 21, of Sidney, was sentenced to one month (30 days) in the Shelby County Jail on the bracelet program for violating probation and all costs of prosecution. On or about De. 6, 2020, Jace allegedly carried a concealed, loaded weapon while intoxicated. Jace was initially indicted on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony that was reduced to carrying a concealed weapon, a first-degree misdemeanor, using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor, and DUI, a first-degree misdemeanor. Sentencing included five years of probation, successful completion of drug and alcohol counseling, that, if violated, could result in 180 days in the Shelby County Jail. On or about Nov. 13, the probation officer noted Jace went to a bar and consumed alcohol.

Daniel Strunk, 37, of Sidney, failed to appear for sentencing on Jan. 5, 2022, for violating probation after testing positive on or about Nov. 24, 2021, for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine. A warrant was issued for Strunk’s arrest on Jan. 5, 2022. On or about April 21, 2020, Strunk was initially indicted on aggregated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools (Methamphetamine in a bag), both being fifth-degree felonies, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony that was dismissed. The conditions of sentencing included five years of probation, treatment at the WORTH Center, and all costs of prosecution, that, if violated, could result in up to a one-year prison sentence for each count, followed by three years of discretionary probation. Between Nov. 15 and Nov. 18, 2021, the probation officer noted Strunk was found to possess drug paraphernalia, admitted to using and tested positive for Methamphetamine. The sentencing was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2020, but on Jan. 4, defense counsel filed a request for a continuance because Strunk was in a residential treatment program at Nova Behavioral Health until Feb. 2, 2022. The request for a continuance was denied on Jan. 5, and he failed to show up for the scheduled sentencing that same day.
