SIDNEY — A Friday evening fire on Shelby Street is under investigation by the Sidney Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit.

Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews were dispatched to 121 and 123 Shelby St. on a report of a structure fire on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at 7:05 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story, two-family residence with heavy fire showing from the side of the residence on the first floor. It was initially reported there may have been people trapped in the structure.

Firefighters initiated a transitional attack to extinguish some of the fire from the exterior as crews prepared to enter the structure to search, according to a Sidney Fire press release. Firefighters then entered the structure and completed a coordinated search and fire attack to complete extinguishment. Search crews confirmed there was no one in the structure at the time of the fire. Complete extinguishment took a couple of hours and significant man power as fire was found in numerous void spaces in the building.

The fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation, the release said.

The loss to the property owned by T & B Martin Properties, LLC is estimated at $80,000 and $15,000 to contents.

A box alarm was dispatched to recall all off-duty Sidney firefighters as well as Anna and Lockington Fire Department. Anna Rescue Squad provided mutual aid to handle a medical call while all Sidney crews were committed to the fire incident. The Sidney/Shelby County Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services provided canteen service to on scene personnel.

CenterPoint Energy was called to the scene to secure the gas and AES to secure the power.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or fire personnel.
