According to Brian K. Hathaway, Spirit EMS president/CEO, Spirit EMS responded to 17 emergency medical dispatches from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatch center. That’s seven more calls than the week prior.

Eight of the 17 calls were in the Houston EMS district which includes Loramie and Washington townships including the village of Lockington and excluding the village of Russia. There were nine dispatches in the Perry Port Salem district, which includes all of Salem and Perry townships including the village of Port Jefferson.

Of the eight calls in the Houston district, seven patients were transported to the hospital. One call was to assist Russia Fire on a reported structure fire. Russia Fire first responders also assisted on one medical call.

In the Perry Port Salem district, both Spirit EMS and Perry Port Salem Rescue were dispatched on nine calls. Spirit EMS responded to nine of the calls, while Perry Port Salem Rescue responded to seven of the calls. Six patients were transported from the scene; two by Spirit EMS and four by Perry Port Salem Rescue. Three patients refused transport after an evaluation by EMS personnel. Shelby County deputies and Port Jefferson firefighters were called to assist at two scenes.

On Wednesday morning, two calls came in within a minute of one another and Spirit EMS sent units to both scenes. Spirit also manned additional ambulances during the winter storm last week. However, there were no dispatches during the storm.

Of the 13 patients transported to the hospital last week, eight were transported to Wilson Health, four to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy and one to Kettering Health in Troy.

Spirit EMS responded to 100% of its dispatches during this time.
