Multiple fire departments respond to shed fire

SIDNEY — A structure fire is under investigation by the Sidney Fire Department. Seven departments responded to the fire Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sidney Assistant Fire Chief Jason Truesdale, at 2:20 p.m. on Feb. 21, Sidney firefighters were dispatched to 3293 Knoop-Johnston Road for a structure fire.

Along with Sidney Fire, Lockington Fire, Port Jefferson Fire and Anna Fire were dispatched on the initial alarm.

Upon arrival, firefighters had a fully involved shed fire that extended into the house. Crews completed an aggressive exterior attack, along with an interior attack and search of the house. Crews confirmed all occupants of the house had safely evacuated.

The alarm was upgraded to a second alarm for tankers with a response from Kettlersville-Van Buren Township Fire, Houston Fire and Fletcher Fire.

The fire loss to the property is estimated at $30,000.

Five personnel were recalled to staff Fire Station 1 while the incident was ongoing. During the fire incident, multiple other calls were handled within the city limits.

Pioneer Electric was called to the scene to secure the power.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted on the scene with traffic control in the area and at the water-fill site. They also handled the communications for the incident.

No injuries were noted to firefighters, law enforcement, or occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sidney Fire Department Investigation Unit.
