Shelby County Libraries plans November events

SIDNEY — There are a lot of interesting things happening this month at your Shelby County Library.

All month long at Sidney Amos Library there is a Build A Turkey Contest for children in sixth grade or under. Each week you students complete challenges to build a turkey in order to win small prizes and to be put in the drawing for a grand prize basket.

Starting on Monday, Nov. 13, Anna, Amos, and the Russia library will have an “I Spy” game for the kids all week. In the Teen Room at Amos Library that will be giving away the Hunger Games book series to honor the movie Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes being released on Friday Nov. 17. At Botkins Library Lego Builders from pre-k through second grade assemble to make creations. While third through sixth grade meet the next day. All creations from both days will be on display for the rest of the month. If your child really enjoys Lego Fort Loramie will have a Lego Club at 3:30 p.m.on Nov. 21. All creations made by the club will be on displayed for a month.

On Nov. 14 Fort Loramie Library will start a Mystery Room Puzzle Club at 4 p.m. They will meet weekly until the puzzle is complete. The club is for those 8 and up. Space is limited, so you must register to join. On the same day Amos Library will have a Thanksgiving Day Craft for kids K-6th grade in the Community Room. The Children’s Room will be celebrating National Pickle Day by offering a pickle snack. TAG, Teen Advisory Group, will meet on the lower level at 4 p.m. to discuss ideas for programs, services, and materials for the library. They also volunteer helping out around the place. At 6 p.m. at the Botkins Library, Amanda Hurley from Shelby County Soil and Water Conservation District will host a special story time for those in Pre-K through 2nd grade that teach them about animals in our ecosystem. During that time, the Anna Library will be hosting a Turkey Party with crafts, prizes, and yummy treats.

On Nov. 15 seniors meet at Anna Library at 10 a.m. for the weekly cards game while Amos Library holds a Family Story Time.

On Nov. 16 at Amos Library, The In-Be-Tweens will meet at 4:30 p.m. to watch “Free Birds.” A 2013 family comedy about two turkeys who join forces to change the course of history. Murphy’s Craftbar +Kitchen will host the Shelby County Libraries Books and Brew monthly event. Guests will discuss the book “Easy Crafts For The Insane” by Kelly Williams Brown.

Fridays are Story Times at various locations. Russia will have theirs at 10:15 a.m. for those 3-5 years old. While Fort Loramie Library will have theirs at 12:30 p.m. along with a craft, so registration is required to attend. Jackson Center Library will host Amanda Hurley from the Shelby County Soil and Water Conservation District as she reads a story to those in pre-k through 2nd grade about “Terrific Turkeys”.

On Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m. Fort Loramie Library will have a craft project available to the kids while supplies last. At 10 a.m., Botkins Library welcomes babies through kindergarten and their caregivers to their weekly Preschool Play date event with educational and sensory toys.

On Monday, Nov. 20, Fort Loramie will begin their weekly I Spy game. At 4 p.m. Jackson Center library will host a book club for adults where they will discuss “Little Bee” by Chris Cleave. Russia Library will have a special Thanksgiving Family Story Time at 6:15 p.m.

On Nov. 21, Amos Library will be showing a Dungeons and Dragons interactive movie in the Community Room. The film is rated PG-13 and will begin at 4:15 p.m.

On Nov. 27, Russia Library will begin their weekly I Spy game. While at Amos Library they’ll begin there Magical Christmas Coloring Contest. This year they will be celebrating the magic of Disney. Deadline for entries is Dec. 15. On the Nov. 28 Fort Loramie will have a drop in craft available while supplies last. Beginning at 4 p.m., Amos Library will have a Board Game Night on the lower level. On the Nov. 29, Jackson Center Library will have a craft workshop for adults at noon where they’ll be making lighted wine bottles. Space is limited, so you must register for the event.

All locations will be closed on Nov. 23-25 in honor of Thanksgiving Day. On Nov. 24 they will be holding a Shoot the Turkey Nerf War. The event starts at 6 p.m. for those in second grade and up. You can bring your own Nerf gun or use one provided. Registration is required as the library will not be open that day to the public.

Currently, they are all accepting donations for books and other media in good condition. Things they do not accept are; magazines, VHS tapes, cassettes, records, Reader’s Digest, encyclopedias and textbooks.
