SIDNEY — Sidney City Schools treasurer received a new three-year contract during Monday night’s board of education meeting.

The board approved Mike Watkins’ contract effective Aug. 1, 2024. The contract is for 260 days each year. His salary will be determined in the summer of 2024 after his evaluation.

The board also accepted the resignation of Lori Hedberg and rehired her for the same position effective Aug. 1, 2024. Hedberg is a physical education teacher at Sidney Middle School.

A new payroll manager was also hired by the board. Jacqueline Kremer will begin her new job on Jan. 10, 2024. She will be paid $36.61 per hour. She received a one-year limited classified employee contract.

According to Watkins, she is currently the treasurer for Versailles Exempted School District and had been their payroll manager prior to that.

“I think we are really lucky to get her,” said Watkins.

There were eight or nine people who applied for the position, said Watkins. Kremer was the only one with school district experience.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the treasurer’s report.

• Approved membership in the Ohio School Boards Association for calendar year 2024 at a cost of $7,600.

• Approved substitute teachers Emily Jones, Nathan Barnes, Elisabeth Palmer, Marcie Brautigam, Cara Stockton and Taylor Bisbee at a rate of $150 per day.

• Approved home instruction tutors Tracy Nuss and Joe Moniaci at a rate of $29.54 per hour.

• Hired two custodians on a one-year limited contract: Holly Evans at $17.39 per hour; and Austin Lamb at $16.91 per hour.

• Hired classified substitutes on a one-year limited contract: Joe Moniaci, substitute custodian, $15.39 per hour; and Paige Martin and Jose Ortiz-Ledee as substitute cooks at $11.05 per hour.

• Awarded supplemental contracts to Kathryn Mayes, Sidney Middle School girls basketball, $1,472; Bradley Blosser, SMS wrestling, $1,472; and Amanda Gross, SMS girls basketball, $1,472.

• Approved a leave of absence for Megan Gray, MD teacher, from Feb. 12-29, 2024.

• Set the organizational meeting for Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. at the board of education building community room.

• Appointed Zack Bosslet as the president pro tem for the organizational meeting.

• Reappointed Amy Zorn and Tim Bickel to the city of Sidney Recreation Board for a five-year term beginning April 1, 2024.

• Approved students Abby Jane Burkett, Hannah M. Carlson, Malea Mae Hensley, Aubree Cynthia Mckee, Davin Lee Meiring, Jace Jacob Minniear, Hope Elaine Purtee, Kasi Lynn Rinderle, Donavon Ray Smith, Kaleigh Ann Smith and Layla Grace Spanglerfor early graduation with the Class of 2024.

• Held a public hearing for the 2024-25 school calendars for kindergarten to 12th grade and for the preschool.

• Heard the legislative report from board member Greg Dickman.

• Heard the Upper Valley Career Center Board of Education update from board member Michele Lott.
