SIDNEY — A fire at 444 Jefferson St. on Jan. 16 at 9:12 p.m. made estimated damage of $15,000 to the structure and $2,000 to contents.

According to Sidney Assistant Fire Chief Keith Wiley, upon arrival on the scene, firefighters found a two story, single family structure with fire showing from the attic space. Firefighters initiated an offensive interior attack and extinguished the fire and began checking for extension. No injuries were reported to any of the occupants or Sidney firefighters.

All off duty firefighters were recalled and crews from Anna Fire and Lockington Fire responded to the scene. A medic unit from Piqua responded to Station 1 and responded to two medical calls. Sidney Police assisted firefighters on scene.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire. Fortunately, the fire was found by the occupants and they were able to escape safely.

“It is recommended that you have at least one smoke detector for each level of your home to alert you in the event of a fire,” Wiley said.
