SIDNEY — The 2024 Community Foundation of Shelby County scholarship applications are now available to local high school seniors and adult students pursuing college, trade and technical schooling. Online applications are accessed at commfoun.com, where students can apply for some of the 90 local scholarship funds awarding more than $380,000.

Some scholarships provide a one-time award, while others are renewable.

“We have two application deadlines. March 14 is for high school senior scholarships and skilled trades scholarships for either seniors or adults and May 30 is for college or adult student scholarships,” said Juli Smith, Foundation scholarships and grants manager. “Begin the application process by clicking the link on the Community Foundation’s website, in the Grants and Scholarships section to apply for 2024 scholarships. Once the applicant creates an account in the site, they will be given application options.”

“Due to problems with the government’s revised FAFSA student aid form, we are giving applicants for high school senior and adult scholarships the option to either submit their FAFSA Student Aid Index or the Student Aid Estimator,” said Smith. “Many of our scholarships require applicants to provide financial need information, which is considered in the selection process. FAFSA information helps gauge the level of need.”

“Our Skills Scholarship application is for any high school senior or adult enrolling in a trade, technical or vocational program or an Associates degree that leads to employment. This application does not require past grade or financial information. It relies on student intent for their career and past experience showing an understanding of what the career demands. These students should complete the Skills Scholarship application. They may also be eligible for scholarships on the high school senior or the adult and current college student form, so they should consider completing more than one type of Community Foundation scholarship application,” she said.

The online application can be started and then completed in future sessions, but incomplete applications will be rejected if not finished by the deadline. Community Foundation staff will help applicants with any questions they have prior to the deadlines.
