Russia BOE sets public hearing for IDEA funds

RUSSIA — The Russia Board of Education set the date for a public hearing to discuss the use of federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funds at a meeting on Feb. 21.

The public hearing will be held on March 20 at 8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the presentation discussing the proposed use of the funds and will have an opportunity to comment on the plan. For more information or to submit a comment, contact Superintendent Steve Rose at 937-526-3156.

The board also approved the following items:

• Bills, including then and now certifications;

• The amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor;

• Employment of Hope Bixler, Corynn Heitkamp, Jessie Abke, Lexi Monnin, Lillian Roby, Jacob Robinson, and Evan Berning as substitute teachers at a rate of $100 per day for the 2023-24 school year on an as-needed basis;

• Employment of Mariana Kellner, Regina Grube Hannah Lyons and Janice Luft as substitute classified aides at a rate of $90 per day for the 2023-24 school year on an as-needed basis;

• Employment of Regina Grube, Georgianna Barga, Anne Dickersen, Janice Luft, Lisa Monnin, Jenn Wysocki, and Linda Scott as substitute cafeteria workers for the 2023-24 school year on an as-needed basis;

• Employment of Zachary Bell and Claire Meyer as junior high track coaches for the 2023-24 school year;

• Steve Rose as a volunteer assistant track coach for the 2023-24 school year;

• Two days without pay for Jana Salisbury for an extended vacation;

• A resolution authorizing membership into the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2024-25 school year;

• Donations of $1,200 from the family of Dr. Chen for scholarship purposes and $601.86 from RCA for recess supplies for elementary classrooms.
