SIDNEY – Supply chain issues, lack of product and skyrocketing prices couldn’t stop the Sidney Knights of Columbus, Council 659, from restarting their monthly fish fry events.

A staple for hundreds of people locally is back on June 10, as the local K of C reopens for drive-thru only, after a three-month absence.

“During the Lenten season, fish was simply not available – at least in the amount we needed,” said Grand Knight R. Michael Johnson. “And, if it was available, it was so expensive we simply couldn’t justify charging our customers outrageous prices.”

Because of continually rising prices, a fish meal with two sides and a dinner roll will now cost $10, with senior/child portions costing $7.

“We debated long and hard about going to $10 for the meal, but in the end, we all felt that price was reasonable and our organization still makes a profit,” Johnson said. “All of the money from the fish fry events goes directly back into the community through funding of special projects and scholarships.”

As before Lent, all meals will be ordered and delivered through the K of C organization’s well-planned and orchestrated drive-thru system.

Diners are asked to enter the south end of the K of C parking lot, where their order will be taken. They will then drive around the building and pick up their freshly-prepared meal, all without having to leave their vehicle.

“To say we’re excited to be serving the region’s best fish again is an understatement,” said Johnson. “We missed our patrons as much – if not more – than they missed our fish.”

Johnson explained fish is now available since the first part of the Alaskan Pollock fishing season was successful, and supplies are now readily available.

The local Knights of Columbus sponsors monthly fish fry events the second Friday of every month from 5-7 p.m. at 1300 Fourth Ave.
