SIDNEY — The Senior Center of Sidney-Shelby County uses gifts from Match Day 2021 for social, recreational and health programs. Gifts helped sponsor a recent Friday Fun Night featuring karaoke.

The Senior Center of Sidney-Shelby County is participating in the Community Foundation Match Day, with gifts helping those age 50 or better live their best life.

“For the past 25 years, our continuing goal has been to provide a place where members can try new things, enjoy time with friends and learn about healthy lifestyles,” said Rachel Hale, executive director. “Match Day gifts allow us to increase our social and recreation programs with additional Friday Fun Nights featuring trivia and karaoke and theme dances four times a year that are provided free to members and open to anyone age 50 or better. Gifts will help support our newest veterans-only program on Friday mornings: Coffee, Donuts & Camaraderie that will be free to any veteran age 50 or better, regardless if they are a member or not.”

Match Day support will enhance the Senior Center’s health and education programs by replacing small equipment such as hand weights, bands and instructive videos for exercise classes and maintaining larger exercise equipment. Additional funds will help the Senior Center upgrade computers to keep pace with changing technology.

To support the Senior Center of Sidney-Shelby County on Match Day, gifts must be made payable to the Community Foundation of Shelby County with: Match/ Senior Center noted on the memo or in an accompanying note or form. Details and forms are available at the Community Foundation website at commfoun.com and at the Senior Center at 304 S. West Ave., Sidney. Gifts must be received on or before Nov. 29 to be eligible for matching money. Credit card gifts may be made only on Nov. 29.

The Community Foundation of Shelby County holds its Match Day event annually on Giving Tuesday. This year, 25 local charities will ask supporters to make a gift to the Community Foundation that will be matched up to a total of $5,000 per charity.

Match Day participating organizations have a 501(c)(3) tax status and an organization fund within the Community Foundation of Shelby County with an asset balance exceeding the Foundation’s fund minimum. Gifts received will not be placed into an organization’s fund, but instead will be returned to the organization for its work in the community.
