New hotel amenity: car charging

COLUMBUS — Several Ohio Select Registry inns have amped up their upscale amenities, teaming up with Tesla Motors to provide an increasingly desirable feature: Tesla destination charging.

Select Registry, the guide to exceptional bed and breakfasts, inns and hotels, includes the following luxury properties, each of which now offers the vehicle charging stations: Glenlaurel and the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls in the Hocking Hills region; Murphin Ridge Inn in southern Ohio’s Amish country; Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast overlooking Atwood Lake; and White Oak Inn near Ohio’s Mohican River.

“After traveling, Tesla drivers are delighted to stop and recharge themselves with our stunning surroundings and amenities — all while their car is recharging as well,” Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls Innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder said. “They can unwind with a massage in our spa, casual gourmet dining in our restaurant or a hike to spectacular Cedar Falls, which is just a mile from the inn.”

These properties are on the cutting edge of a rapidly growing network of resorts to begin offering Tesla destination charging. Along with the Tesla chargers, the properties also feature chargers for other electric car makes, including the Nissan Leaf or the Chevrolet Volt.

“Our first reservation came in just two hours after we were listed on Tesla’s website,” Yvonne Martin, owner of White Oak Inn, said. “Owners of electric vehicles are able to recharge while they relax and enjoy all that the inn offers — massages, fine dining and comfortable accommodations.”

“Our tranquil and inviting property is perfect for a range of events, from intimate weddings to studious board meetings and business conferences,” said Glenlaurel Innkeeper Tracy Baker. “The new charging stations are the perfect, state-of-the-art upgrade.”

“Whispering Pines invites Tesla drivers to explore the miles of shoreline and our lush landscape,” said Linda Horn, of Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast. “We already have heard wonderful feedback from excited guests, as Tesla vehicles are becoming an increasingly popular choice and are a good match for our ‘piece of quiet.’”

The new program provides complimentary access to charging equipment at hotels, resorts and restaurants around the world. It gives Tesla drivers the freedom to travel anywhere, replicating the charging convenience of home. Each property features two 80A Tesla wall connectors with charging offered at no charge to guests or $15 for those just passing through. The stations add 58 miles of power per hour of charging, topping off Tesla vehicles’ full 265 miles of range in just a few hours of a single charge.
