SIDNEY — On Wednesday, April 20, the Lehman Catholic High School Band will welcome band students in grades 5-8 from Holy Angels, Piqua Catholic and Troy St. Patrick Schools for its annual spring “Band Day” event. An afternoon of practice and other activities with the high school band members will prepare the young musicians for an evening concert for parents and friends.

Upon arrival at the high school, grade school musicians will listen to a short concert by the high school band. This will be followed by a rotation of activities so that the students in each grade level have a chance to practice together for the concert.

After a pizza supper for the students, the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Beginning Band (first year) students will perform “Starsplitter Fanfare,” “Hunter’s Mountain,” and “This Old Band.” The Advanced Band (combined second, third, and fourth year students) will perform “Charterpoint,” “Starry Night,” and “Slip and Slide.” The high school band will then perform “The Genius of Ray Charles,” “Appalachian Morning,” and “Cloud Gate.”

The concert will conclude with all the band students performing a finale number, the theme from the movie “Star Wars.”

The Lehman High School and Holy Angels bands are under the direction of Betsy Moorman. Rachel Owen is the Piqua Catholic band director. Elaine Schweller-Snyder, retired Lehman director who began the tradition of “Band Day” over three decades ago, directs the band at St. Patrick School.

The concert is free and will be held in the Cianciolo Family gymnasium at Lehman Catholic High School.
