YMCA awards scholarships

SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA recently announced winners of two scholarships during ceremonies at the YMCA, Thursday, May 25.

The $12,000 Lee E. Schauer Scholarship was awarded to Kevin Fultz, a Sidney High School senior. He plans to attend the University of Toledo to study adolescent and young adult education in history. At Sidney High, Fultz swam on the varsity team and was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman. He earned a junior varsity letter in tennis. At the YMCA, he swam on the Stingrays team, and has volunteered 221 hours at the YMCA and is a member of its Leaders Club. He also has volunteered for Shelby County Special Olympics, Hands of Hope, St. John’s Lutheran Youth Mission Team and Sidney First United Methodist Church Youth Mission Team.

The $1,000 Jim Lantz Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Katie Edwards, a senior at Lehman Catholic High School. She plans to attend Wright State University to study nursing. At Lehman, Edwards played varsity soccer, basketball, softball and volleyball. She has been involved in the YMCA gymnastics, wimming and indoor soccer program and has volunteered for the Recycling Center and Lady Cavs Soccer Camp.
