SIDNEY — Loralei Chambers, daughter of Lorraine Rose and Lawrence Chambers, from Fairlawn High School was elected as a state officer for the Jr. Ohio Model United Nations Conference.

Chambers, a Fairlawn freshman, will be presiding resolutions from teams all over the state of Ohio at the Jr. OMUN Conference held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus March 13–15. She is the first student from Fairlawn to be selected for this honor and has been an active Model U.N. participant for five years.

“I am honored and excited to represent my school and our Model UN program as a state officer. I’m excited for this opportunity to lead at one of my favorite organizations,” said Chambers.

United Nations is a three-day global education simulation experience that allows students in grades 5-12 to learn about the complete operations of the United Nations and its role as the world’s largest international peacekeeping and humanitarian organization. Through the experience students become delegates of a selected nation in order to write, present, and debate issues affecting the nations and the peoples of the world. Additionally, students present culturally based talent, participate in global education contests, and debate current issues from the agenda of the United Nations. Fairlawn will be sending five teams led by Sonya Phillips to the Ohio Model United Nations Jr. Conference this March.
