Boys golf: Russia earns state berth

Russia earned a state berth in the Division III boys district tournament on Monday at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, as did Houston’s Ethan Lukey and Botkins’ JJ Meyer.

The Raiders finished second with a 329 team score, 19 strokes behind champion Seven Hills.

Felix Franics led Russia with a 77. Jude Counts shot an 82, Braylon Cordonnier shot 84 and Vince Borchers shot 86.

The top two teams earn state berths, as do the top two individuals not on a qualifying team.

Houston senior Ethan Lukey tied for first place by shooting a 75 and earned a state berth. Botkins’ JJ Meyer also earned a state berth; he tied for fourth with a 76 and won a playoff hole with a Birdie to earn the second individual berth.

Botkins finished sixth with a 345, Fort Loramie finished ninth with a 357 and Anna finished 12th out of 12 teams with a 385.

Aside from Meyer, junior Ross Dietz shot a 79 for the Trojans. Carson Heuker shot a 94 and Elijah Schuller shot a 96.

Beau Schafer shot an 84 for Fort Loramie. Jack Cotner shot 87, AJ Ruhenkamp shot 88 and Noah Mannier shot 98.

Seth Hegemier led Anna with an 84. Jose Pulfer shot 95, Rhylan Platfoot shot 101 and Reece Pettit shot 105.

Aside from Lukey, Houston’s Tanner Voisard shot 83. Lehman’s Henry Petersen shot an 82 and Noel Petersen shot an 83.
