Crashes

No one was cited after deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Nov. 22 at 6:12 p.m.

Thomas Bowes Wheatley, 69, of Hillsboro Hill, Texas, was driving a semi-truck traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in the left lane. He attempted to change lanes and struck Jennifer Ann Pelfrey, 37, of Botkins, who was in the right lane.

• No one was cited after deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on Nov. 22 at 3:48 p.m.

Tina Collins, 59, of White House, Tennessee, was driving a semi-truck traveling westbound on Mason Road. She failed to see posted signs stating trucks over 10 feet 6 inches could not go under the railroad overpass bridge, and the truck’s top struck the bridge.

• Gerald A. Schmidt, 67, of Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada, was cited with operation without reasonable control after the State Highway Patrol responded to a four-vehicle crash near exit 92 (Michigan Street) on Nov. 22 at 1:29 p.m.

Schmidt was driving a semi-truck traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in the right lane. Lindsay E. Rude, 41, of Lake City, Michigan, Dawn S. Parker, 70, of Canton, Michigan, and Paige E. Hoffman, 32, of Wapakoneta, were traveling southbound in the left lane. Schmidt traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail, then struck the concrete barrier wall underneath the Michigan Street overpass and overturned. Rude and Parker were struck by debris from the semi. Hoffman swerved to avoid the semi and struck the median cable barrier.

The semi was towed by Mantor’s Towing and Rude’s vehicle was towed by Wrecker’s Towing. Parker’s and Hoffman’s vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Schmidt was the only one injured, and he was taken by Sidney EMS to Wilson Health with suspected minor injuries.

• Tony L. Hicks, 73, of Bradford, was cited with driving left of center after the State Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash on Nov. 20 at 1:17 p.m.

Hicks was driving a semi-truck traveling eastbound on state Route 47. He attempted to pass another commercial vehicle and observed oncoming traffic traveling westbound. He swerved off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and jackknifed. Hicks was taken by Houston EMS to Wilson Health with suspected minor injuries and the semi was towed by Mantor’s Towing.

• Manuel Molina, 39, of Wapakoneta, was cited with operation without reasonable control after the State Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash on Nov. 19 at 3:46 p.m.

Molina was traveling southbound on Hardin Wapakoneta Road when he drove off the right side of the roadway, lost control and overturned into a ditch. The vehicle was towed by Elmer’s Towing.
