Gallery 2:ten to host book signing, wine tasting

Seven Western Ohio authors will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 11 at Gallery 2:ten in Sidney. The writers will be available to sign their books and to talk to book lovers at the store, which is located at 684 Fair Road.

Larry Monnin, of Sidney, reads the back of a book at the Amos Memorial Public Library’s biannual book fair on Wednesday. Monnin said he was looking for whatever “catches my eye.” The book sale began on Saturday and will end on this coming Saturday. Around 2,000 books have been sold.

BOTKINS — The 2024 Super Bowl is now a memory in sports trivia. But for a Botkins resident, the memory is more than trivia, he got to be part of the event.

Sidney Addiction Assistance Team Coordinator Julie Clay, left, accepts a bag of leftover drugs from Mark Blackford, of Sidney. Clay was taking in any unused and expired medications for safe disposal at the Sidney Police Department on Saturday, which was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Drugs that are not disposed of properly can end up in groundwater. Clay said Tuesday 94 pounds of drugs were collected.

Robert Oldham, left, of Sidney, has his Harley Davidson blessed by Rev. Rick Bolner, of Huber Heights during the “Blessing of the Wheels” around the Courthouse Square on Saturday. Motorcycles and classic cars were blessed by clergy during the event, which also included a car cruise-in and entertainment. It’s the second year the event has been held.

Looking Back: Old barn may have canal connection

An unassuming barn sits in the backyard of a duplex at 214 Franklin Street. Shelby County Historical Society Plat maps indicate that the barn was built between 1892 and 1897 next to the canal that once ran through the center of Sidney. The canal has since been filled in, but the barn remains.

FISH Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held

SIDNEY — FISH of Shelby County held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 10 at Sidney First Methodist Church. Sixty volunteers enjoyed a lunch catered by The Spot, and a program presented by Emily Neu of the Mercy Mission House. Door prizes which were donated by local merchants were awarded.
