Sidney firefighters take turns entering the old building that was formerly Ohio Ave. Variety Store at 301 North Ohio Avenue on Wednesday, March 8. The firefighters were taking part in a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Confidence Course. The training involved learning techniques for making their way through fires while wearing oxygen tanks and other gear. Situations they faced included needing to get through a hole in a wall and navigating a room with wires hanging from the ceiling. A fog machine created conditions similar to smoke that can limit visibility. The training started on Tuesday, March 7 and will finish on Thursday, March 9.

ST. HENRY – Make a difference in the life of a patient in need of blood by donating at the Saint Henry EMS new community blood drive Saturday, March 25, from 8 a.m. to noon in the EMS building, 436 Western Ave., St. Henry.

A worm moon shines brightly Tuesday night/Wednesday morning over Ohio. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, a worm moon appears when the ground begins to soften allowing earthworms to appear. It is also the last full moon of winter.

I know you are thinking about your gardens, I just know it. Some of you are watching the weather and even looking up the average last frost date for this season. We are looking at catalogs for seeds and plants and we are going through our seeds from last season to see if we want to use them this year. Have you made a garden map yet? Have you looked at your tools and thought about cleaning them up? I am so anxious; I can hardly keep from talking about it. My sister knows that I am always talking “garden.”

GREENVILLE — EverHeart Hospice is recruiting volunteers to help with patients in West Central Ohio and East Central Indiana. There are many ways people can volunteer with hospice, but they are especially in need of hairdressers and barbers, notaries and veterans to honor veteran patients.

Start this year’s tree pest management with a stroll through the landscape. As you enjoy the scenery, be sure to look for any unwelcome pests that may be overwintering on the twigs of trees.

Carter Wooddell, 16, of Sidney, tees off at the Moose Golf Course recently. Wooddell is a Sidney varsity golfer that came out to start practicing for the next season. Wooddell is the son of Brian and Nikki Wooddell.
